Christmas in the Capital
Rob Dale
Capital City Bikers' Church is a brand new church in the Canadian national capital, Their desire is to reach the biker community with the message of God's love, and to disciple and mentor those who come to faith in Christ. We are convinced tha most effective way of reaching the lost is to build strong relationships with people and:"earn" the right to share God's love with them.
On December 9 the church hosted a Christmas party; more than half of those in attendance were non-Christian, unchurched bikers. Each one received a Hope for the Highway New Testament, which we received from LifeLight Ministries. We inserted a sticker in each one, with the logo of the church, our phone number and other contact information. As we wrapped each NT, we prayed that God would use His Word to minister to the unsaved bikers.
We received many comments during the party as the gifts wre opened. A number of them didn't want to unwrap them until they got home for fear that they would get dirty. Those who opened them mentioned over and over again how nice the Bibles were.
New French Bible Introduced
International Bible Society (IBS) introduced its revision of the French Bible, La Bible due Semeur, in an elaborate launching
ceremony in August in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Tens of thousands attended the four-day ceremony. La Bible due Semeur is a clear, natural and accurate translation. "It reads as if the Bible was originally written in French," said Alfred Kuen, a well-known Swiss theologian and the chairman of the revision committee.
Rays of Light
A Baptist church in North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, puts on a two-hour Christmas drama every year. Their special guests include people from a correctional institution, substance abuse centre, and a rescue mission. This year 400 guests enjoyed a complete turkey meal, and each one received a gift, which included a New Testament.
A new ministry is being started among Spanish-speaking people in Brandon, Manitoba. Lifelight provided them with Spanish Bibles.
Ruth writes, "We have picked up a few Bibles here and there from Stan and really appreciate your ministry. God's Word is powerful. We are planning to take a few Bibles with us on our trip this Christmas. We pray that we will use the opportunities God gives us. God bless your ministry richly."
Gord visits a detention centre for young offenders in Toronto every Sunday and has a great opportunity to share the Gospel in chapel. He requested copies of the basketball New Testaments for distribution at Christmas rescue mission. This year 400 guests enjoyed a complete turkey meal, and each one received a gift bag, which included a New Testament.
From Sharon comes this note: "We received the Bible and two booklets this morning, and I am excited about the potential for these resources. Our son has spent the past three months in a Remand Centre, so the Bible will be a blessing. We also have a friend who is entering prison in January, and The 4th Man will go to him. May God bless your ministry!"
Two days later I had a phone call from a nurse calling on behalf of one of the bikers who had attended the party. He was at the hospital with his girlfriend who had just had a miscarriage. Even though they had never attended our church, and only knew me through the different events we attended, they considered me their pastor and wanted me to come to the hospital.
As I sat with the biker, he told me how he had been up all night. Every time he found himself getting upset over the loss of their child, he would reach for his new Bible and read from it. He had read the first fifteen chapters of Matthew during the night.
I asked how he had found my phone number and why he thought of calling me, and he replied that he saw the contact information on the front cover of the Bible.
Thank you so much for the bikers New Testaments. We are already seeing how God is using them to assist us in ministering to the biker community of Ottawa.

Just before Christmas, James Humphries, director of Project LAMBS, travelled to Myanmar for a two-week ministry tour. In preparation for this trip, the Lord impressed upon his heart to take one of the NIV Study Bibles from LifeLight to give to a certain person, someone he had never met. This man is involved in high-level negotiations among warring ethnic groups in Myanmar and other countries, and has been used effectively to broker peace treaties.
When James arrived in Myanmar he was disappointed to learn that this man was not even in the country and was not expected to return soon. Had James really heard from the Lord?
On the last Sunday of the tour, the interpreter seemed unusually nervous, and for good reason -- the diplomat was in the service! James was able to meet this man and present him with the beautiful study Bible, which the diplomat appreciated.
We thank God for His precious Word and for the ministry of LifeLight in providing ministries like Project LAMBS with quality Scriptures to distribute, to even the remotest corners of the world. The Word of God is going forth and will not return to Him void, but will accomplish the thing for which He sent it.
James Humphries was delighted to be able to present the Myanmar diplomat with a Bible. With them were the diplomat's wife and grandson.
