Peter Loewen and Curt Bork had the joy of distributing The LifeLight New Testaments to Grade 4 students in a number of schools in northern Manitoba.
They received a very good reception and found a hunger for God's word. In one school the principal requested a copy of The LifeLight for himself. A number of teachers also asked for Scriptures.
In another school the principal called for an assembly, giving Mr. Bork the opportunity to share the Word with the whole student body.
Pray that each of these New Testaments will be read, that the Message will be understood, and that lives will be changed as a result.
The Best Bible Translation
Four clergymen were discussing the merits of the various translations of the Bible.
One liked the King James Version because of its simple, beautiful English. Another liked the American Revised Version best because it is more literal and comes close to the original Hebrew and Greek. Still another liked Moffat's translation because of its up-to-date vocabulary.
The fourth minister was silent. When asked to express his opinion, he replied, "I like my father's translation best." The other three expressed surprise; they did not know that his father had translated the Bible.
But he assured them, "He translated it into life, every day of his life, and it was the most convincing translation I ever saw.
This year the group spent a couple of days in Cabo San Lucas, where they showed the JESUS film. Then they went north to La Paz, the capital city. Here they stayed at a Christian retreat centre, while working with the Centro de Fe church. One of the film showings was in a prison – talk about a "captive" audience!
Have a blessed Father's Day!
Students Coming to the Light
Darkness covers the earth. Thick darkness spreads over the nations. But I will shine on you. My glory will appear over you. Nations will come to your light… (Isaiah 60:2). God's promise to us in the midst of darkness is that through us nations will hear the gospel, and that is now happening in Kamloops. Every week students are studying God's Word and learning to become true disciples of Jesus.
What a blessing to have fifty people attend the Chinese New Year event on February 16! Thirty-seven students heard three other students share their testimonies and a Chinese medical doctor share the Gospel using Chinese characters. Many took Bibles that evening and said they appreciated the evening. Of course, the food was terrific too!
There is a tremendous hunger among the Chinese from mainland China. This winter I had the privilege of giving both English and simplified Chinese Bibles to the students who came to ask for them. My supplies are running low because of their interest. Two girls who became Christians here in Kamloops are asking about baptism before they return to China.
Every week I have the opportunity to have a literature table at the university. There are more than 600 international students from more than 39 nations of the world, and many are interested in The LifeLight New Testaments we received from LifeLight Ministries. Many of these students come from closed countries and have never seen a Bible before. What a joy to give them God's Word, see them come to Christ and then return to their own countries with His Word.
