Millions exposed to the Gospel

Power to Change Ecuador

Partnering with churches, Campus Crusade for Christ staff in Ecuador and other Christian organizations, the Power to Change campaign scheduled for November will saturate the region around Guayaquil and will expose five million people to the Gospel. Although Guayaquil is the nation's economic capital, the church there is still predominantly for the poor.

Church-based mobilization and training is the heart and soul of the campaign. Ecuadoran believers are trained to staff the 400 Power to Change kiosks, implement block strategies, follow up on media leads and operate houses of prayer.

The goal of the media campaign is to reach 95 percent of the population twelve to fifteen times within a four-week period. Television and radio commercials, newspaper ads, billboard advertising, Jesus film showings and other creative strategies will encourage residents to log on to the web site and call to receive a Power to Change booklet.

About fifty Canadians left on November 1 to participate in this campaign. LifeLight Ministries had the opportunity to provide several of them with Scriptures. Dennis Suderman requested fifty copies of the Spanish/English New Testament. They will be given as gifts to interpreters, as well as to businessmen, many of whom are anxious to learn English.

The following report comes from Ellaine Kushniryk, another participant:

Last spring our church gave a "reverse offering" to twelve people. We were challenged to use the gift, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to further the ministry of Jesus.

I pinned the envelope on my bulletin board at work so I'd see it every day. I thought and prayed and changed my mind over and over. The only things that didn't change were that, whatever I did with the money I'd been entrusted with, I wanted to be personally involved, and I wanted to reach many people.

My answer came in early August when I found a Power to Change flier in my church mailbox, titled The Ecuador Project–November 2002. It mentioned a new strategy being used in Latin America to help reach cities. Beginning with quality training in evangelism and discipleship, we will be equipped with the ministry essentials needed to impact others for Christ. Using the Jesus film, and working closely with local churches, hundreds will see and hear the story of Christ and have an opportunity to receive Him as Saviour and Lord. We will be ministered to and "stretched" in our walk with the Lord.

I am taking some Spanish Bibles from LifeLight with me to use as gifts while in Ecuador. I give thanks to the Lord for this incredible opportunity to serve Him in Latin America.
