Word on the Street
Word on the Street Fellowship is a small street-ministry church in New Westminster, B.C , reaching out to Spanish-speaking people in Mexico.
We work with churches, showing the Jesus film in the streets. Spanish New Testaments are provided to pastors for follow-up. Many organize a Bible study in their community, and many believers have been trained in follow-up discipleship. One church recently reported fourteen new adults attending since the showing of the film.
Bible studies are also being held at two drug and alcohol rehab centres. We have provided Bibles for each centre and are hoping to raise enough funds so that we can give each person a Bible upon completion of the program.
Would you like to help provide Bibles for the rehab centres in Mexico? Send your donation to LifeLight Ministries, and designate it for " Word on the Street."

Just on Time!
My husband, three children and I have been doing mission trips to Tijuana, Mexico, together with Pastor Peter Ramirez of Langley, B.C. We have been involved in building churches, schools and homes, as well as conducting Vacation Bible Schools and doing evangelistic work. God has placed a burden on our hearts for the lost and destitute of Mexico.
We had been searching for a place to obtain Spanish Bibles that would not cost us a lot. At Missionfest in Edmonton we were given a free Spanish Bible at the LifeLight Ministries booth.
In March we travelled to Tijuana, where an older couple graciously opened their home for our family to stay. This couple became Christians later in life and have started a church in their home and also one in a very poor area nearby. They do not have much but are willing to give what little they have, in the name of Jesus.
We gave them the Spanish Bible to pass along, and they were overjoyed. They had just led a man to Christ the day before and wished they had a Bible to give him. God is so good! He knew to whom this Bible would go before anyone else did.

Bush Receives Bilingual Bible
President Bush met with more than 800 evangelical Hispanic pastors and leaders last spring for a National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, C.C. At the event Bush was presented with a Spanish/English bilingual Bible. President Bush thanked and encouraged them to keep praying. He said that many people tell him that they pray for him, and he responds by looking them in the eye and saying, "That's the greatest gift you can give."
Nicaragua – National Day of the Bible
In an historic vote in the Nicaraguan Parliament, politicians voted July 15 by 75 to 1 to declare September 29 "National Day of the Bible." The last Sunday in September will now be a national holiday in this Central American country of five million people.
After the vote, the Nicaraguan Bible Society handed out Bibles to the members of Parliament. Chaos broke out on the floor as members of Parliament scrambled to acquire their copy of the Word of God. One member, confronted with the three Bibles he already had in his hands, bleakly replied, "I need five–one for each member of my family."
Two Global Vision employees, John Medendorp and Larry James, were privileged to witness these events and to join in the celebration of this stunning victory for God's people at the National Assembly. Global Vision had the honour to be the first official sponsor of the National Day of the Bible.
The Living Word for Hispanics
Thanks to a generous donation from a friend of LifeLight Ministries, we were able to provide the Rio Grande Bible Institute (RGBI) with five cases of Spanish Bibles for ministry among Spanish-speaking people on the Texas/Mexico border. Dan Antoniuk sent us a report:
Ramon graduated from the RGBI in 2001. In January of this year, Ramon and his family were invited to plant a church in Texas. Being passionate about reaching Hispanics for Christ, I have committed myself to help Ramon and the future leadership of Iglesia Palabra Viva Evangelica Libre (Living Word Evangelical Free Church) get started.
The Bibles from LifeLight are now a key part of the growing process. Several of the folks who came last Sunday took new Bibles home for their personal use, as well as to give to their unsaved friends. We are praying that these Bibles will be used by the Holy Spirit to convict many of their sin and that many will turn to Christ.
One case of Bibles went to Moises Figarola, Dean of Students at the RGBI. These will find their way into the hands of Mexican nationals when a group of RGBI students goes into Mexico to minister during the Thanksgiving (USA) holiday vacation.
Thank you for making these Bibles available for distribution among the needy Hispanics of South Texas.
Dan Antoniuk
Note from Editor: The RGBI is a language school for missionaries preparing to work among Spanish-speaking people, as well as a Bible Institute for Hispanic young people from many different countries. The school is located in Edinburg, Texas, close to the Mexico border.
