Martha Kroeker grew up on a farm near Rosenort, Manitoba, in a family
with seven brothers and three sisters. There was always lots of work
to keep all of them busy, but there was also time for play. The closest
neighbours were half a mile away, but with such a large family, they
didnŐt really need other kids to play with. A lot of time was spent
outdoors - with toy farms, a playhouse, games like Hide and Seek,
baseball, Drop the Hankie, and many others. In winter many hours were
spent with paper dolls, reading, playing school, and table games such
as Monopoly, Scrabble, and Sorry.
Martha had the privilege of being raised in a Christian home, where
Sunday school and church were always very important. At the age of
thirteen she committed her life to the Lord during a series of revival
meetings in her church. For many years she enjoyed teaching Sunday
school and Vacation Bible School.
School years were happy years for Martha. Her love of children and
teaching led her to teacher training and ten years of teaching, first
in public schools in Manitoba and then four years in Mexico, where
she taught missionary children, as well as Spanish Bible classes.
When she returned to Canada, she decided it was time for a change,
so she began working at the head office of the Evangelical Mennonite
Conference in Steinbach, Manitoba, as a secretary/receptionist.
After 23 and 1/2 years there, she decided that it was again time for
a change. In August 2000 she began working with Canadian LifeLight
Ministries as the Executive Coordinator. She is grateful for the opportunity
to help in spreading "The Light" in her community and around
the world
Martha's interests include reading, cooking, hiking, gardening and
travelling. Her travels have taken her to Mexico, Paraguay, Ecuador,
Peru, Alaska, and many other parts of the United States and Canada.
